Jaltest diagnostic scan tools from Triad Diagnostic Solutions allow you to work on multi-brand fleets and engines. With both the hardware and software, your shop can read fault codes, perform OEM bi-directional tests, and parameter resets, and reset ECU maintenance records, trip data, and much more to keep your fleet or customers’ vehicles running.

Today’s trucks are fine-tuned computers on wheels that require careful maintenance and care, and sometimes this care includes a comprehensive diagnostic tool with fault code and symptom-based troubleshooting and repair information and technical data. Here is a quick guide and rundown for how you can perform this kind of troubleshooting repair.

Step 1

In this example, we’ll look at a Cummins ISX engine displaying the fault code 2754 pressure sensor in the emissions filter. Many Cummins engines have exhaust after-treatment systems, which is where that fault code comes from. When you look up the engine via the software, you can find all of your Jaltest menu options, including access to the diagnostics menu.

Step 2

In your Jaltest Expert Mode, you can have access to all of the OEM information, including the ability to read fault codes and get a detailed description of what’s happening within your Cummins engine. Here, you’ll select Read Fault Codes to continue.

Step 3

In the Read Fault Codes section, the faults that are occurring in your engine will show up here. For the sake of this example, we’re only concerned about the 2754 fault code that is indicating there is something wrong with the particulate filter inlet pressure. While there is valid data, the sensor is reading that there is above-normal operating range.

Step 4-6

By selecting the “i” next to the code, you can navigate your way through freeze frame data that shows you the priority level, the date of the last occurrence of the fault, the hour of occurrence, warning lamp, and system state. Under the “Help and Components of the Fault” tab, you will find the engine’s same components related to the fault code. By selecting the additional component information, you will find a detailed image of where you can see this component.

Step 7

Once you’ve selected your component in question, you can then navigate to the Diagrams tab in your Jaltest software. Here, you’ll find a list of all the components related to that area of the engine and can select them individually to find out where they’re located.

Step 8

Once you’ve located your component, you can then navigate back to your Diagnostics menu, where you’ll find step-by-step instructions for fixing the fault under the Fault Code Troubleshooting tab. It’s vital that your teams follow these steps to ensure that proper fault code troubleshooting occurs and that the engine is restored to manufacturer standards.

Step 9

In some cases, your technician may need to perform a valve adjustment to reset the fault code. These procedures can be found under your Vehicle Technical Data in the Jaltest menu on the left-hand side of your screen. Under Adjustments and Tolerances, you’ll find the capabilities and information needed to adjust a valve.

Step 10

The final check for fault code is to tighten the torques of the cylinder head screws. It’s crucial that you use clean oil lubricant on the lower part of the head of the screw and not reuse old screws.
