Important Update from Triad Diagnostic Solutions: Prepare Now for Windows 10 End-of-Support and Diagnostic Software Compatibility
Microsoft has officially announced that support for Windows 10 will end in October 2025. After this date, critical security patches, updates, and technical support will no longer be available. For diagnostic shops using OEM or aftermarket software platforms this transition will have direct operational impact.
Why This Matters for Your Diagnostic Operation:
Diagnostic Software is Advancing — and Leaving Legacy Systems Behind
Software developers across the automotive industry are modernizing their platforms. TEXA and others have already confirmed plans to phase out compatibility with older operating systems and are beginning to develop features exclusively for Windows 11 and the forthcoming Windows 12. These newer systems are designed for improved security, higher efficiency, and integration with AI-powered diagnostic tools.
What Your Computers Need to Run Windows 11:
Windows 11 introduces significant changes under the hood — and as with any feature-rich software, it requires updated hardware to perform reliably. Below are the minimum specifications a system must meet:
- Processor: Dual-core or better, running at 1GHz or faster
- RAM: Minimum of 4GB (more is recommended for diagnostics)
- Storage: At least 64GB of free space
- Graphics: DirectX 12-compatible GPU with a WDDM 2.0 driver
- Firmware: Must support UEFI with Secure Boot enabled
- Security: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0 required
- Display: High-definition (720p) screen with 8-bit color depth
- Network: Active internet connection is required for updates and cloud-based tools. The Home Edition of Windows 11 also requires a Microsoft account for first-time setup
For the smoothest upgrade path, Microsoft recommends that systems be running Windows 10, version 20H1 or later. Shops using devices in “S Mode” must either stay on the Home edition of Windows 11 or switch out of S Mode permanently (note: switching out cannot be undone).
What Happens if You Delay:
- Outdated Hardware = Missed Features: Without compatible systems, technicians will be unable to access the latest software capabilities — including cloud tools, AI diagnostics, and enhanced security.
- Performance Bottlenecks: Even if older systems are technically upgradeable, lack of SSDs, limited RAM, or unsupported chipsets will slow performance and reduce reliability.
- Unplanned Downtime: Waiting until systems break or become fully incompatible will create unnecessary service disruptions.
Our Recommendation:
Triad Diagnostic Solutions strongly advises shops to begin evaluating and upgrading their diagnostic computers now. This includes:
- Ensuring hardware meets Windows 11 compatibility
- Upgrading to SSDs and increasing RAM where needed
- Choosing laptops and tablets recommended for OEM diagnostics
- Preparing for AI-enhanced workflows that require faster, more secure systems
