Autel is preparing to introduce NASTF Secure Data Release Model validation on select key and immobilizer programming tools.
This change will affect how certain security-related functions are accessed, including Add a Key, All Keys Lost, and supported immobilizer procedures. It does not mean your Autel tool is losing its key programming capabilities. It means qualifying security transactions may require the user to verify an active NASTF Vehicle Security Professional credential before the function can proceed.
Here is what Autel users need to know, which tools are affected, and what shops and locksmiths can do now to prepare.
What Is NASTF SDRM?
The National Automotive Service Task Force, or NASTF, operates the Secure Data Release Model, commonly called SDRM.
SDRM is a security validation system used to authenticate and document vehicle security-related transactions. Automakers have already used this type of validation within factory diagnostic applications. Aftermarket tool manufacturers began implementing SDRM validation in 2024 as part of broader industry efforts to reduce vehicle theft and the unauthorized use of security-capable tools.
For most supported transactions, the tool user enters:
- A valid NASTF Vehicle Security Professional ID
- A passcode generated through NASTF’s multifactor authentication process
The transaction is then verified and recorded through the NASTF SDRM system.
When Will Autel Implement SDRM Validation?
Autel’s planned rollout begins with the MaxiIM KM100 during the third quarter of 2026.
The MaxiIM IM508 Series and MaxiIM IM608 Series are expected to follow in future phases. Autel has not yet announced specific implementation dates for those later phases.
This is a phased rollout, not an immediate restriction across every Autel product.
Which Autel Tools Will Be Affected by NASTF SDRM Requirements?
Autel currently identifies the following product families for SDRM implementation:

Which Autel Tools Are Not Affected by NASTF SDRM Requirements?
According to Autel, SDRM validation does not apply to its other product lines, including:

- TPMS tools
- ADAS calibration equipment
- EV diagnostic tools
- Service tablets
- Other Autel product categories outside the specified IM and key programming tools
A standard Autel diagnostic tablet will not require SDRM validation simply because it can perform vehicle diagnostics, active tests, service functions, or other non-security-related procedures.
Which Key Programming Functions May Require Validation?
SDRM validation applies to supported vehicle security-related functions, which may include:
- Add a Key
- All Keys Lost procedures
- Immobilizer functions
- Other supported security-related operations
Not every function on an Autel IM tool will require SDRM validation.
Vehicle diagnostics, tool setup, key generation, transponder detection, frequency testing, and other non-security functions are not automatically subject to the same requirements. Actual availability and validation requirements can depend on the vehicle, procedure, tool, and software application.
Will an Autel Tool Stop Working Without a NASTF Credential?
No. The tool itself will continue to operate.
However, after SDRM validation is implemented on a supported Autel tool, certain security-related procedures may not proceed unless the person performing the transaction has the required NASTF VSP credentials.
This distinction matters. SDRM is not a general tool activation requirement, and it does not disable every function on the device. It adds identity verification to qualifying vehicle security transactions.
What Is a NASTF Vehicle Security Professional Credential?
A Vehicle Security Professional, or VSP, credential allows an approved automotive security professional to access qualifying vehicle security information and perform supported SDRM transactions.
The VSP Registry is intended for eligible locksmiths, repair professionals, and other qualified businesses that perform legitimate vehicle security work.
NASTF, not Autel or Triad Diagnostic Solutions, manages:
- VSP eligibility
- Application requirements
- Required business documentation
- Credential approval
- Credential status
- SDRM policies
- Authentication and transaction records
Because requirements and fees can change, applicants should confirm current information directly through the official NASTF VSP Registry rather than relying on older application instructions.
How Should Autel KM100, IM508, and IM608 Users Prepare for Upcoming SDRM Validation?
Shops and locksmiths that regularly perform key and immobilizer work should begin preparing before SDRM validation reaches their tool.

The KM100, IM508 Series, and IM608 Series will continue to provide their supported key programming and immobilizer capabilities. However, access to certain security functions may depend on the user’s eligibility, credentials, vehicle coverage, software status, and the applicable SDRM process.
